Ex-Beatle Ringo Starr, Dennis Quaid, Barbara Bach and Shelley Long band together in a hilarious love story for the ages’the stone ages! With an all-star cast and fun special effects, this cult comedyclassic is a “cheery, playful” (The New York Times) romp through BC that “aims for belly laughs and gets them” (Variety)! Prehistoric life is tough for poor, lovesick Atouk (Starr). As the smallest and weakest caveman of his tribe, he is unable to win the heart of the beautiful Lana (Bach) and is banished from the cave by Lana’s mate, Tonda (NFL star John Matuszak), the hulking chief of the tribe. Forced to wander the ancient wilderness, Atouk meets a variety of unlikelyallies who, after hearing his story, want to help him get back in with his clan. And before Atouk knows it, he’s the chief of his own tribe of misfits! Leading his rag-tag band of oddballs into battle, Atouk has one mission in mind: to knock Tonda off his throne and carry Lana away by her hair!Yes, that’s a former Beatle in caveman costume for this more-dumb-than-funny 1981 comedy about a prehistoric misfit (Ringo Starr) who recruits other misfits to start a new tribe. The jokes about flatulence and sex are banal, but the cast of then-unfamiliar faces is fun to watch from the perspective of history. The best thing going are some dinosaur special effects, though Ringo might argue meeting his future wife (Barbara Bach) was a good deal. –Tom Keogh

When I think of all of the great movies that so many people are wondering and asking why isn’t this movie on DVD yet and then I see that an awful movie like Caveman which is horrible is on DVD all I can say is something’s not right about that! I can’t believe the great Ringo Starr would even want to be in this movie and Shelley Long why was she wasting her talent in this dreck? Now I have seen some movies that were so bad they were good and funny to watch but Caveman is so bad it’s bad.

CAVEMAN used to be one of my favorite movies, something I could watch over and over. That was about 12 years ago. Now, my opinion is somewhat changed perhaps because my choice of humor has changed.
The movie, which stars Ringo Starr, is about the cave “underdogs” banding together to give each other the proverbial bone. As outcasts, they may lack the strength of the more formidable cavemen, but they do have brains. Or so the movie would make you think…
Seeing the movie now, I disliked a few inappropriate scenes depicting something along the lines of drugging a woman in order to molest her. 12 years ago, I didn’t understand scenes like that. This may be a comedy flick, and it may not have nudity etc, but it is definitely not for minors. The gags are also mediocre, reduced to bodily functions and sheer idiocy. Much of it reminds me of watching old Monkee reruns.
Rent it for nostalgia, but I don’t recommend buying it unless you own the video and it is worn out with so much use.

The picture quality is good.
The people in this movie do not speak any language at all. They make some vocal sound but it’s not English because it’s supposed to happen long time ago. This does not bother me. I found very few funny moments in this film. Probably, it’s not my type of comedies.
