Movie DVDYes, Virginia, there was a Sesame Street before the Age of Elmo. This 1993 collection highlights the role of music in the long-running series from Children’s Television Workshop, and reminds us that such Jim Henson creations as Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, and Ernie and Bert were once part of a true ensemble of Muppet superstars. Nothing against Elmo, of course: kids adore him and he makes enough appearances in this anthology (including the show-stopping “Happy Tappin’ with Elmo”) to keep today’s tykes happy. Also included is Ernie’s classic “Rubber Duckie” (really, who doesn’t know the words to that?), Oscar’s anthemic “I Love Trash,” you-know-who’s “C Is for Cookie,” and Big Bird’s Big Finale, a rendition of “Sing” that includes the entire cast. There are 27 tunes in all, and they don’t all involve singing puppets: Ladysmith Black Mambazo turns up for one track, and the “Sesame Street Jam Session” includes some actual playing of instruments. –Tom Keogh

I hate this video! Sesame Street is one of the worst shows I’ve ever watched in my life! I love the episode that Dr. Phil and Dr. Feel are on, but they’re always in my head! They’re awful! If your preschooler asks for this video, tell them NO because this video is awful and he or she will not be happy when they get this video.

and still haven’t played the full DVD once. That’s how bad this one is for my 15 month old son. Maybe, he will like it when he grows, until then it can’t get his attention nor mine. It doesn’t have the basics all DVDs have like menus, song selections, and etc. Picture quality is OK. I regret for buying it based on some of the reviews here.

This should have been titled “African Celebration”. I am pissed. The songs are incomplete, there is this African Ceebration that seems to monopolize the DVD and it was carelessly put together. Major waste of money here.

I bought this video hoping that it would be great sesame street quality. Although there are parts to it that are fun and nostalgic for me(e.g., rubber ducky), the newer segments and newer songs with people (rather than muppets) are disappointing and boring. My daughter walks away when I put it in….unlike 1-2-3- Count with me and Alphabet Jungle..which she adores and which have truly helped her learn her numbers and letters.

I grew up on Sesame Street and the Muppets and thought this would be a great DVD for my 18 mos old. But I thought the song selection was terrible. Really disappointing!
