Were the World Mine
  • WERE THE WORLD MINE – ALTERNATE COVER ART (DVD MOVIE)

Studio: Wolfe Video Release Date: 06/09/2009 Run time: 95 minutesIn Were the World Mine, the lovelorn lunacy of A Midsummer Night’s Dream spreads through an all-boys school and the town beyond when the gay boy playing Puck discovers a love potion just like that of the play. Timothy (Tanner Cohen) resists being cast as the fairy, but the mystical drama teacher Ms. Tebbit (Wendy Robie, Twin Peaks) persists because of his lovely singing voice. The words of Shakespeare seize upon Timothy’s mind and lead him to create a love potion–which he uses to capture the heart of the school’s star rugby player, but also to make everyone see the world through his eyes. Soon the rugby coach is pursuing the school principal, the principal’s wife swoons for Timothy’s mother, and the school jocks are prancing around like ballerinas. Were the World Mine is punctuated here and there with techno ballads and languorous, glittery fantasies, but it’s not exactly a musical–the songs are only vaguely woven into the story, and just when the action should accelerate everything turns a bit ponderous. Nonetheless there’s a great deal of charm (and half-dressed young men) to be found in Were the World Mine. The contrast between the kitchen-sink realism of Timothy’s real life and his LaChapelle-esque daydreams gives the movie an engaging dynamic. The cast is attractive and likable, particularly Zelda Williams as a bohemian friend of Timothy’s and Judy McLane as his mother. –Bret Fetzer

I would love to review it but still have not received it. I have emailed once already and got a response stating it could take up to 15 days and that was on the 15th day almost another 15 days ago (total of 30 days)

The most overrated gay film in years.Forget the hype. I found it very tedious and too juvenile . Okay it is a fantasy but it was ridiculous seeing macho butch guys suddenly turning to mincing gay fairies .The good looking cast look far to old to be school students.

I had expected a lot from this film and was extremely disappointed. It isn’t a musical despite what you have read. The dated short on the disc is the main film dragged out to feature length.Too gay cliched for my liking. Let’s face it American do not know to make decent gay movies. (with very rare exceptions).

Slow pacing, marginal acting, paper-thin story line. Big disappointment. Sure, the musical numbers aren’t awful, but I felt like this would have worked much better as a stage play. I was expecting something on the level of “Get Real” or “Beautiful Thing” and this was neither.

When I saw the videos for “Were the World Mine” on Youtube I knew that I HAD to see it. I am hopelessly addicted to musical movies so I was so looking forward to watching/owning this movie… I was disappointed.

The movie was… I don’t know what adjective to use there that wouldn’t be needlessly harsh so… passable. It was also so stereotypical in the portrayal of gay people that I was near offended. Why, when turned to the inclination of preferring the same sex, did everyone begin to dance and sing? I get that it is a musical and therefore dancing and singing but it just became so… “FABULOUS”!!! Like, “we’re gay now so I’m done playing rugby and I’m going to join musical theatre!” Why? Were they secretly into musical theater before? Then show that they were! I like my comedy to be FUNNY, not a slap in the face.
