Once in every generation, a film comes along… That’s not usually a phrase used to describe a pornographic film, but the cowboy fantasy BuckleRoos isn’t your typical sex flick. Codirected by Jerry Douglas and John Rutherford, the two-part, four-hour epic is a masterpiece of the genre, and one of the most award-winning gay adult films in history. How it got made is the subject of this rollicking, spirited documentary by female gay-porn videographer Mr. Pam. There’s the sexy southerner who does porn to pay for law school, the hunky Latino who’s an ex-Pentecostal minister, and the straight production assistant who lets it all hang out if an actor needs “inspiration.”

I don’t know what the reviewer “Gordon Larko” is smoking. For some reason, he feels compelled to leave the EXACT SAME horrible review and 1 STAR rating for all GAY-THEMED movies. Probably a “personal problem” of his. Hopefully this review will help correct this imbalance. I can’t believe AMAZON is allowing this GAY BASHER to use their website as a venue to spread his hate.
By the way, This is an absolutely WONDERFUL movie!

I watched this documentary when it first was released and I liked it. It was interesting to see a female gay porn director in particular. As another reviewer has pointed out, the documentary was produced by the same company that shot the film in question (Buckleroos)– so really, do you think any of the people involved are going to have negative things to say about the film or the industry? Still, it was a worthwhile peek at what goes on behind the scenes of a gay porn movie.
What has struck me, however, when I rewatched the film recently, is how much things have changed for some of those actors who professed comfort with themselves and their place in the industry. Two of them have been revealed as HIV positive (one has retired and one is now doing porn for a company that uses HIV positive models), and another actor is struggling to make a comeback after an absence due to admitted drug addiction. It’s obvious that the documentary has to be taken with a grain of salt– things are not always what they seem. Still, it’s a fun look at some of the things we don’t normally get to see.
