There were so many reasons to like this movie. The main character is smolderingly sexy. He narrates it, so you obviously see his point of view. The older male in the movie is from an even older Columbo series, and he played the murderer in it. I suppose that was solely my problem when I watched it, but he did make me cringe a bit. (Old men kissing is such a damn turn off) Other than that…the movie was entertaining but I always crave more young male on male love scenes. (not old men! *ewww*) Still, that said, I wasn’t disappointed.

Well, I’m shocked. I simply cannot believe the “glowing” reviews this film has received, albeit not from too many mainstream critics. I viewed this for the first time last night, and I thought I would NEVER make it through.
The story is yet another “hooker with a heart-o’-gold, and I didn’t buy it for one minute. First of all, any film that has more than 20% narration bothers me. The reason is simple–I do NOT need to be “read” to. I’m smart enough to figure a few things out. Keep your mouth shut–especially when you’re droning on-and-on about a character with about as much substance as s turnip. Derek Magyar plays the call boy “X” and he also narrates, ad nauseum, the story. His character was mean, cruel, thoughtless, and uncaring about other’s feelings. I guess he was paid $5,000 per performance for boring the s**t out of people. The scene between him and the older man at the bar truly set out what kind of a person he was. Why ANYONE would be attracted to him is beyond me.
The ideas were not original, the characters were plain old dull and insipid, the movie was slow-moving, and contained no memorable performances. Believe me, I don’t think I’d want to go through life with the moniker “blowey Joey,” but what do I know?

I really enjoyed watching this movie – highly recommended.
I’ll have to say that I did not know what to expect, but it was really good. The story is well written and is very believable, as are the characters and the acting is very good !!! It deals with real life issues, some that are general and some that are more gay-specific….. like trust, friendship, love, the meaning of life, fear of coming out, denial, lust and it has the right mix of comedy thrown in as well. It has light-hearted moments and genuinely serious deep moments. Also, for those that appreciate the beautiful sensual defined sexy lusty provocative male form, there’s that too.
Nice little gem of a film that I am happy to have purchased and will watch again.

I really liked this movie. The actors are hot, and the story goes beyond your typical coming of age story that fills the plot of most modern gay movies. I read the book before I watched the movie, and even though the book was better (as it typically is), this movie did the book justice. The main character, X, was very similar to how he was portrayed in the book. The only thing I wish there was more of with this movie is shirtless, hot sex scenes
