Sesame Street – Bert & Ernie’s Word Play
  • ISBN13:
  • Condition: NEW
  • Notes: Brand New from Publisher. No Remainder Mark.

Studio: Genius Products Inc Release Date: 06/03/2003 Run time: 50 minutes Rating: NrThe Muppets are putting on a play on words (get it?), a convenient framing device for a Sesame Street-style reading lesson. Get ready for some sticky, slippery fun when Prairie Dawn directs the G-rated vaudevillian act, complete with Bert and Ernie in straw hats telling corny jokes and a pie-throwing machine in fine working order. There are behind-the-scenes prop emergencies and a finale no-show, prompting rhyming lessons (“Oh, no, Hoho is a no-show!”) and plenty of TV clips, including “I Am Chicken,” the fowl take on the feminist anthem “I Am Woman.” Elmo joins singing partners Mo and Flo in the stirring (substitute) finale, “We Got the Need to Read.” Kindergarteners who think they’re too old for Sesame Street might still get drawn in by challenges aimed at beginning readers. Ages 2 to 6. –Kimberly Heinrichs

This DVD is often amusing, but completely unsuitable for children learning to read. Words are all but incomprehensible in many of the songs, and some charaters don’t articulate the words as well as you would expect (don’t get me started on Elmo). It’s also too long.

My one year old daughter loves this video. Mom and Dad sing the songs too, you can’t help it the songs are so catchy.

This is fairly good for a child just introduced to phonics and letter blending. It uses the blended letter sounds, as well as taking away a letter and adding a different letter in order to make a new word. We have only watched it once thus far; so, my review is not the greatest, sorry. BTW – I loved Sesame Street as a child and now my 5-year-old loves it also:-)

We own quite a few DVDs, my son loves this one and the Elmo 123 count with me. Both are truly fantastic. He can watch it every day and he laughs even, he is only 9 months.

For my son who is Obsessed with Elmo this is nice because it’s a break from the Elmo’s World videos but it includes enough Elmo for him to enjoy it. He loves the pie scenes and now has developed a fascination for Bert and Ernie!!
