When a top-secret, unauthorized mission goes awry, CIA agent Tom Bishop (Brad Pitt) is captured—and sentenced to die. With just 24 hours to get him out alive, Bishop’s boss, Nathan Muir (Robert Redford), must battle enemies abroad and the system inside the CIA to save his friend. Now the clock is ticking and the race is on … as the deadliest game of all explodes into the spectacular, adrenaline-fueled thriller that ABC Radio says “sizzles with suspense!”A thinking person’s thriller, Spy Game employs dense plotting without sacrificing the kinetic momentum that is director Tony Scott’s trademark. The film has the byzantine scope of a novel, focusing on veteran CIA operative Nathan Muir (Robert Redford), whose protégé Tom Bishop (Brad Pitt) is scheduled for execution in a Chinese prison. It’s Muir’s last day before retiring (cliché alert!), and Bishop is being deliberately sacrificed by oily CIA officials to ensure healthy trade with China. Muir has 24 hours to rescue Bishop and his perfunctory love interest (Catherine McCormack), and Spy Game connects the mentor’s end-run strategy to flashbacks of his student’s exploits in Berlin, Beirut, and beyond. Ambitious but emotionally bland–and not as exciting as Scott’s Enemy of the State–Spy Game offers pass-the-torch humor between leather-faced Redford and pretty boy Pitt, and although their dialogue is occasionally limp, the movie compensates with efficient style and substance. –Jeff Shannon

Bring a gun into China prison without being detected?
Fly back forth between US and China by helicopter?
Prison soldiers speak Mandarin in first 5 minutes, then speak Cantonese in next 5 minutes?
Is a movie without logical storyline a good movie? Not even included those illogical timelines mentioned below.

I think Tony Scott is secretly a woman and you can tell whenever it’s his time of the month because it’s his time of the month when his movies suck. That’s the only thing that would explain how he can make movies so amazingly good as The Last Boy Scout, Top Gun and especially Crimson Tide, and then turn around and make movies as horrifically bad as this and True Romance.

this is one of the stupidest movie i’ve ever seen recently.
the whole story jump back and forth, severely disjointed, lots of things unexplained, unfinished, or simply nonsense.
china in the story can be replaced by any other country in the world. the funny things: traditional chinese characters show up in the supposed mainland china scene (mainland china use the simplified chinese character); people speak cantonese instead of mandarin; the us consulate in hong kong is at the wrong place; etc. it’s just like a movie showing americans using latin, speaking australian english, and the empire state building shown as afghanistan consulate

If you do like movies with complicated plot, many flashback and a lot of dialog, Go For It ! My opinion : BORING ! Is there a mistake or what ?! The action starts in 91, Redford talks about his first meeting with Pitt through a flashback, in Vietnam in 75. They look exactly the same in 75 and 91.Not believable at all. They should have used younger actors or at the least, choose someone else than Brad Pitt, too young for the role.
