CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is a fast-paced drama about a passionate team of forensic investigators trained to solve crimes the old-fashioned way – by examining the evidence. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is on the case 24-7, scouring the scene, collecting the irrefutable evidence and finding the missing pieces that will solve the mystery. The seventh season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is as solid as any of the series’ previous years. The stories are strong, the actors share potent chemistry, and the characters are believable because they are flawed human beings. This year, CSI delves into the complicated romance between head investigator Gil Grissom (William Petersen) and his underling Sara Sidle (Jorga Fox). The two are reticent to let their colleagues in on their relationship, and the season finale offers a gasp-inducing prospect of their future together. Earlier on, though, there’s even a bit of a triangle when Sara learns about Gil’s prior romance with dominatrix Lady Heather (Melinda Clarke). The normally steely Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) faces her own dilemmas when she wakes up in a motel room, unsure if she has been sexually assaulted. And fellow CSI Greg Sanders (Eric Szmanda) finds himself the victim of a gang beating after he witnesses a brutal attack. In a nice homage to the Who–whose song “Who Are You” serves as the theme song for the series–singer Roger Daltrey makes a guest appearance in an episode called “Living Legend.” Daltrey portrays a man who may or may not be responsible for a series of modern-day murders–even though he reportedly had died in the 1970s. The Who frontman, who has some acting credits under his belt, is perfect playing an enigmatic (and possibly crazy) man who is never quite what he seems. Throughout the season, Grissom and Co. are plagued by a serial killer who taunts the CSIs with clues left at the scene of the crime, whose calling card is a series of painstaking miniatures replicating his atrocities. The season finale deals with the Miniature Killer going after one of the CSIs. Whether the investigator lives or dies won’t be known until the eighth season, but it’s a breathtaking finale befitting this quality drama. –Jae-Ha Kim

I purchased this item in early December for Christmas. It qualified for the Super Free Shipping deal they were running at the time. It took over three weeks for this item to be shipped. I didn’t receive it until Christmas Eve. I will NEVER use Amazon again unless they improve their so called FREE SHIPPING Offers. It was not worth the headache or anxiety that it caused.

I was so excited when the Seventh Season of CSI came out. I purchase it every year and usually watch it within a few weeks. Season six was so excellent that I could hardly wait for season seven to be released. Although this season did get off to somewhat of a slow start (with just a little too much drama on the parts of the main characters and not enough emphasis on the science or crime-solving), this season was executed quite well. The writing and acting was spot-on, as always, except for a few minor annoyances dealing with implausible plotlines (“Redrum”) and some utterly forgettable episodes (“Sweet Jane”). Additionaly, I found that the “quips” (the one-liners spoken right before the opening credits roll) are not quite as clever as years past. Where I usually laugh out loud I found myself rolling my eyes. This is a rather minor annoyance, though, so I’m not too concerned about it. As far as content is concerned, I give this season a 4.5 of 5 stars.
My biggest problem, however, was with the quality of the video. Usually the video quality is stunning and the discs are authored very well, but this season I felt that the video was a little off. The colors did not pop as much as I would expect and the footage felt a bit soft for me. I have several upconverting DVD players as well as a progressive scan DVD player, and they all showed “jaggies,” or de-interlacing artifacts. I’m not sure whether the content on these discs is authored in progressive or interlaced, but there was something wrong with the footage. Of course I wouldn’t expect this to be a problem for everyone – I have a top-of-the-line upcoverting DVD player that is outputting 1080p to a 104″ diagonal image, so it is fairly easy to see every little defect in the source. What is odd to me is that there are some scenes where I would expect de-interlacing artifacts (i.e. very tight diagonal lines throughout the scene) that are displayed perfectly smoothly. If you have a basic setup with just a standard DVD player and a standard definition television, I’m sure it looks great. This really only applies to those who are watching these DVDs on an HDTV. As far as the video quality is concerned, I give this release a 2.5 of 5 stars.
Unfortunately, it can be quite distracting when you see problems with the quality that could lead to visual defects, and that’s what happened here. I was extremely let down in the video quality arena, especially with the new HD media formats (this is an excellent candidate for HD DVD or Blu-Ray – I’m surprised CBS and Paramount haven’t decided to give this show a new HD treatment). Last year’s CSI: NY Season Two had some of the best video quality I have seen on a standard DVD, and was hoping for more of the same this year. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
