Austin Powers Collection: Shagadelic Edition Loaded With Extra Mojo (International Man of Mystery / The Spy Who Shagged Me / Goldmember) [Blu-ray]

Austin Powers-International Man of Mystery Name: Austin Danger Powers. Sex: Yes, please! Combine the swinging ’60s, spy movies, talented Mike Myers in dual roles and one hilariously well- placed champagne bottle and you get Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Say “Yeah, baby!” for laughs as Flower Power-era superspy Austin (Myers) is thawed from a 30-year cryogenic freeze to stop the world-dominating scheme of bald baddie Dr. Evil (also Myers). Elizabeth Hurley, shagadelic style and Austin’s randy attempts to find ’60s-style free love in a very different, uptight time add to the groovy fun of this mad, mod, Myers world.

Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me He’s back–back in the 1960s. Secret agent Austin Powers (Mike Myers) hops in a top-secret time machine and zips 30 years back to 1969 to confront Dr. Evil (Myers) and his latest, vilest scheme. Evil is eviler – he has a diminutive clone Mini-Me (Verne J. Troyer) and massive Fat Bastard (Myers) as a henchmen. Austin, who “put the grrr in swinger, baby,” is swingier…if he and fab spy chick Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham) can recover the mojo Evil stole from Austin.

Austin Powers in Goldmember The mission for Austin (Mike Myers): Shake booty into the glittery roller-disco days of 1975 and rescue his suave spy dad (Michael Caine) from the scheme of – Shh! – Dr. Evil (Myers). The minions: freaky-flakey Goldmember, Fat Bastard (both played by Myers) and Mini Me (Verne Troyer). The minx: Austin’s sassy ex-squeeze Foxxy Cleopatra (Beyoncé Knowles). The result: a three-for-all of grooviness that whisks from the 2000s to the 1970s and back to the 2000s – the screamingly funny third Austin Powers!

    I enjoyed this series of films very much. The “Goldmember” film a bit less but overall a very creative and funny pop culture feast! One of the big bonus’s for me anyway is to finally have the original Austin Powers movie in the proper 2:4 aspect ratio after years of having to watch it on 1:85 on normal DVD. This may not mean much to some viewers but to those interested in seeing what they did at the theater it does. The other two films came out in proper 2:4 aspect ratio on DVD previously so why the original was formatted a bit off was always a mystery to me. The films look great on Blu-ray …and while they don’t have any NEW bonus features to my notice..at least they did import all the old ones and music videos (some blu-rays are coming out WITHOUT the previous bonus features).

    I picked the set up for a price that came to about $15 per film so I think its a very good value.

    Austin Powers International Man of Mystery was the best of of the three, though the picture quality is good it is not as clean as I had hoped it would be (maybe I am just really picky and spoiled since watching the Incredible HULK and The Dark Knight?

    “The Spy who Shagged me” the colors are incredible and the sharpest out of the 3 movies.

    Goldmember was entertaining but not as good as the first two.

    If you are a die-hard Austin Powers fan, this is a no-brainer and a must buy! My wife whom has never seen any of these movies (OMG) thought they were histerical even today! Definitely Classic Mike Myers…

    Finally, there are subtitles for “Austin Powers In Goldmember” as I could not get Closed-captioning to work on the DVD version.

    Note: Be careful opening the package as the set is shrink wrapped very tight and might cut the loose page on the outside that you might want to keep. (The real box has Austin Powers & Dr. Evil on each side.)

    Especially for James Bond fans, the Austin Powers Collection is probably the funniest spoof I have seen. Die hard 007 fans will see quite a few “familiar” activities and throw backs to Bond, all the way back to Thunderball and perhaps beyond. The quality of the Bluray is exceptional, and a definite upgrade (1080p) to cable or conventional DVDs.

    And if you like girls, you’ll especially love the story line throughout all three BDs. This is definitely humor and satire at its very best.

    Thanks Amazon for delivering this collection with speed … I was tired of surfing cable for Austin Powers in hi def.

    Mike Myers’ famous character, Austin Powers, is now a special 3-movie set on Blu-ray. If you don’t like silly bathroom humor and sexual innuendo, then you won’t like this trio of comedies. However, if you can let loose a little and remove all inhibitions, these 3 films will have you laughing. The first 2 are the strongest films, with the third being a little bloated (like Fat Bastard) and not much new material; it relies on the same guffaws as its predecessors. The extras on these three discs also area a little disappointing, as they don’t seem to be much more than a repeat of the original DVD incarnations, with no new material whatsoever. Still, it will be great to see Austin in High-Def.

    The three films in this set include:

    “Austin Powers-International Man of Mystery.” 1960′s Superspy Austin (Myers) is thawed from a 30-year cryogenic freeze to stop the world-dominating scheme of bald baddie Dr. Evil (also Myers). Elizabeth Hurley plays the daughter of his former partner, Mrs. Kensington (Mimi Rogers), and provides the love interest. The main joke through the movie is how politically incorrect Austin is in the present.

    Extras for “International Man of Mystery”:

    * Commentary with Mike Myers and Jay Roach (director)

    * Five deleted scenes and two alternate endings

    * Celebrity cameos from Christian Slater, Priscilla Presley, and Tom Arnold

    Specs: Dolby TrueHD: English 5.1; Dolby Digital; English 5.1

    “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.” Austin Powers hops in a top-secret time machine and zips 30 years back to 1969 to confront Dr. Evil (Myers) and his latest scheme. Evil is eviler – he has a diminutive clone Mini-Me (Verne J. Troyer) and massive Fat Bastard (Myers) as a henchmen. Austin and fab spy chick Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham) must recover the mojo Evil stole from Austin. This film is a worthy addition to the series, with Mini-Me adding new laughs and Graham performing quite well as the new love interest. The Fat Bastard character is absolutely gross, but will obviously add appeal for the toilet-humor crowd.

    Extras for “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me”:

    * Commentary with star/writer Mike Myers, director Jay Roach and

    co-writer Michael McCullers

    * 21 Deleted scenes

    * Four music videos including Madonna and Lenny Kravitz

    * Comedy Central’s “The Dr. Evil Story” – a faux biography-like

    documentary

    * Behind the scenes featurette

    * Celebrity cameos include Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson, and Rebecca Romijn

    Specs: Dolby TrueHD: English 5.1 EX (aka 6.1), Dolby Digital: English 5.1 EX

    (aka 6.1), Español 2.0 and Brazilian Português 2.0

    “Austin Powers in Goldmember.” The mission for Austin is to rescue his suave spy dad (Michael Caine) from the latest scheme of Dr. Evil. The minions: freaky-flakey Goldmember, Fat Bastard, and Mini Me. The new gal: Austin’s sassy ex-squeeze Foxxy Cleopatra (Beyoncé Knowles). Plenty of time-jumping between the 70′s and the present day. This film is the weakest of the three, with very few new laughs. However, it is still funny and definitely watchable. For me, the highlight of the movie is the opening with guest cameos from Tom Cruise & Gwyneth Paltrow, portraying Austin & Dixie Normous. Britney Spears also has a funny bit in the opening. No hi-def for the extras, unfortunately. The picture and audio for the movie are very good though, but as stated before, this is not the type of film that really takes advantage of the format.

    Extras for “Goldmember”:

    * Commentary with star/writer Mike Myers and director Jay Roach

    * Fifteen deleted scenes with optional commentary by director Jay

    Roach

    * Four music videos including Beyoncé and Britney Spears

    * Behind the scenes with the actors

    * Subtitle track with trivia and fun facts

    * Featurettes

    * Celebrity cameos include Tom Cruise and The Osbournes

    Specs: Dolby TrueHD: English 5.1, Dolby Digital: English 5.1, Español 2.0
