Swooping, wild, bloody, and energetic, this is bad moviemaking from the best, which makes it all the more lovable. Kenneth Branagh plays Victor Frankenstein, a man so obsessed with conquering death that he decides to create life. What he gets, after a protoplasmic mud wrestle, is a Mean Streets monster (Robert De Niro) that isn’t particularly happy to be back from the dead or thrilled about all the stitches. Helena Bonham Carter may, at several points in this film, actually be channeling Ramtha. The supporting cast couldn’t be peopled with better performers (Tom Hulce, John Cleese, Ian Holm) but they all look like they’re ringside at some Ultimate Fighting competition. A must for any midnight movie collector for the shock factor alone. A hoot. –Keith Simanton

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein ( MsF ) Is by far the weirdest movies I have ever seen. Not becasue it was bad, becasue so many things were bad, yet other things were good. I have never read the book, so I don’t know how to compare this. Which may be a good thing.
I won’t put a intro to the movie. IT’S FRANKENSTIEN!!!!
Acting:
Helena Bonham Carter was the best actress in the movie. She showed plenty of emotion when Frankensteins creator ( I forgot the guys name, so i’ll put FC Frankenstein’s creator) is going mad and will not spend any time with her when they are to be married. At the end, when she is recreated, She does a wonderful job.
Robert De Niro:
Worst aspect of the flim. ROBERT DE NIRO AS FRANKENSTEIN????? He was really phony in the role, and it was really awkward to see him cry and display all these emotions. Can’t help but think director Kenneth Branagh put himm in the role to add some ‘ A+ stars in his movie.
Kenneth Branagh:
Was the director and Frankenstien’s creator. Couldn’t help put think that he thought he was the STAR. One seen he goes walking around with his shirt off, which in my opinion was very un needed. I did read a small adaptation to F. and Kenneth was not what I had in mind for Frankenstiens creator. In the book he seemed slightly, emo, and weird ( maybe even a bit gothic in appeareance???) Kenneth has blonde hair and is the oppisete ( spelling??) of emo or goth.
The acting was bad, other then Helena.
Speical effects are nothing to call great, but the seens shot in the snow were great.
The flow of the flim seemed a but choppy in my opinion. The begginging seemed to only focus on Helena and Kenneth not F. So…..

I simply thought this “Frankenstein” movie was boring. Robert DeNiro is a great actor, but this movie failed to keep my interest. I would not recommend this flick to horror movie fans.

First off, Robert DeNiro as the monster. I saw him and immediately thought of Jake LaMotta or Vito Corleone. They didn’t even try to disguise his accent and no-one ever explains why the monster sounds like he just got off the plane from New York. Second, Kenneth Brannagh was so in love with the set that he forgot about story. Finally the scene where Elizabeth was ressurected was ridiculous. Frankenstien’s shock that she’s not happy to be back–burnt up, cut of and her heart pulled out of her chest– was supposed to be touching but I laughed. We all know how great Kenneth Brannagh is but he got completely carried away here and the result was really, really, really bad.
I give it two stars for the pretty costumes and utter magnificence of Aidan Quinn’s face.

This is bye far, the best remake of Frankenstein ever. This is better than the Frankenstein sequel’s to, well MOST of the Frankenstein sequel’s at lest. Comes very close to the perfect book written by Mary Shelley. Some people said this was bad because there was to much drama. Will people stop being Nerd’s!
