It’s also a struggle between competing, derivative story lines in this bloated, plodding film that can’t decide what it wants to be. It’s part Romeo and Juliet, via the seemingly doomed romance of the princess fairy and teenage leprechaun; part contemporary romance, with an uncomfortable-looking Randy Quaid in the romantic lead; and a large part unfocused fable that fills out its Irish stew with a feud reminiscent of Ireland’s Catholic-Protestant conflict while throwing in fantastical Braveheart-style battle scenes and Riverdance-like interludes. The most stunning scenes are the fairy sequences that take place in a futuristic castle in the sky (think Wizard of Oz meets Star Wars) and the epic battles with innovative leprechaun bark-and-stick armor. First, let me state I am student of Mythology and Folklore of the British Isles, including Britain, Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Hebrides, Isle of Jersey, as well as Breton, Normandy, Wales, etc. The word Faerie encompasses all mythological creatures from these areas, thus Leprechauns are indeed Faeries. Another note, if the writer and/or researcher bothered to pick up a single book on mythology and folklore, they would have noticed that there are NO female Leprechauns whatsoever. Leprechauns are also Non-Trooping Faeries. The so-called Faeries, which are actually more like Pixies or Pillywiggins.
In short, this movie is utter pap, having no research done whatsoever, but what can one expect from NBC, which featured a dreadlocked Calypso in The Odyssey and a completely uneducated retelling of the Arthurian Legend. (Queen Mab originates from Queen Medb of the Irish legend called The Tain, not Arthurian legend.)

i watched this movie a while ago.. rented it cause the box looked good woth a beautiful faery on it and all.. i expected a beautiful faerytale.. but thr movie is a big dissapointment.. it s supposed to be funny or something i suppose and the story isnt too interesting.. if you like real fantasy movies like the dark crystal, labyrinth, the legend etc. than this movie will probably only annoy you.. it s a waste of time and money.. dont buy it..

Without a doubt this has to be the corniest fairy tale ever made! I’d like to thank the producers, actors, writers, and directors for turning me off pagan folk lore once and for all! I have never been so nauseated or bored out of my skull as I have been watching this dreadful movie! It is a cross between the Wizard of Oz and Romeo & Juliet with the most atrocious plot ever conceived! I would like to say this is a movie for children but my children saw this movie and said it was stupid! The movie comes with a fine cast of actors who waste their talents on this dog! All the fine acting in the world could not redeem this ridiculous movie! This movie is relly a throw back to the Zigfield folly fantasies of Hollywood in the 1930′s! Horrible! Absolutely Horrible is the only way to describe this turkey!

This has been a complete waste of my time and money. I love miniseries and I love Fantasy, but this is too awful to look at. The acting is not good and the way creatures move and fly is very amateuristiccally filmed. I wish I wasn’t so greedy and that I had kept my money in my pocket. This can only be fun for little children, but not for adults !!!
Don’t buy it !!!!
