The year is 1944 and the world lives in fear of unidentified flying objects called Neuroi. With the old-boy old guard unable to thwart this deadly menace, humanity turns its desperate eyes to an aerial attack force with much nicer legs. Meet the girls of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, better known as the Strike Witches. These darlings of the great blue yonder may not have standard issue uniforms, but they do have all the right stuff. Where the average flyboy falters, these dolls blast aliens to bits in the bat of an eyelash. With a little magic and a whole lot of leg, the girls of the 501st are winning the war on pants, and aliens!

This is a show about magical girls with guns (whom all seems to be lesbians) that are in a war against aliens called Neuroi from outer space. The time and setting of Strike Witches is around when World War II happened, but in this story, it never did. The countries are all different also. The main character is Yoshika Miyafuji. She has a magical ability to heal injured people and animals. She joins the 501st Joint Fighter Wing which is a military unit of other witches like herself. They do battle with WWII-like weapons and fly using devices resembling airplanes fixed to their legs called Strikers.
The story of Strike Witches is rather simple. It involves numerous battle scenes against the aliens to save the world, cutesy comedy bits and almost always features visuals having much to do with the sexuality of the witches themselves. Most of these witches are in fact depicted as being teen aged children. It will be bothersome for most people given the fact that much of what you see in Strike Witches was meant to exploit these very young characters for their bodily appearance. They do not wear pants. In fact, there seems to be no such thing as pants for the girls. Their pantie apparel serves as the only barrier between our eyes and their sensitive areas. So this show has much to do with showing off their obvious lack of clothing.
If you are looking for a show which has really well done animation, is generally fun and you can deal with its one very unsavory quality, then Strike Witches might be right up your alley. There are excellent characters and the feel of this show overall is quite appealing. It never goes too far and just sparkles with excellent, technical design.
