Dark Light
Rin, Daughters of Mnemosyne: The Complete Series

It Only Hurts Forever….

Rin Asogi is an immortal private detective with a thirst for vodka and a talent for attracting things that go bump in the night. In a series of nightmarish vignettes spanning sixty-five years, Rin’s lush body is sadistically pierced, blown up, and mulched to a bloody pulp. The fiend behind her tortured existence is Apos, an eternal being obsessed with sacrificing Rin to Yggdrasil, the tree of all life. While Rin struggles to unravel the secrets of her endless agony, Apos lurks in the shadows, eager to tear into her ripe body and devour the memories of her countless lives. Rin’s no stranger to the realm of the dead, but her next visit could last forever.Although it incorporates a lot of up-to-date CG effects, the violent fantasy Rin: Daughter of Mnemosyne (2008) feels older than it is. The story elements lifted from earlier series ranging from Ah! My Goddess to X contribute to the passé tone. Having ingested a “time fruit” produced by Yggdrasil (the tree of creation in Norse mythology), Rin, the voluptuous title character, is immortal–and she proves it by dying and coming back with a frequency Shirley MacLaine might envy. Assisted by her equally deathless sidekick Mimi, Rin pursues mysteries and malefactors that invariably involve the eerie Apos, the murderous immortal/cyborg Sayara, and various members of the Maeno family. All the evil schemes and feats of derring-do provide opportunities for a lot of fan-service nudity and grotesque violence. Rin feels like a throwback to the sadistic misogyny of Wicked City and Demon City Shinjuku: Rin, Mimi, and the secondary female characters are subjected to assaults that range from mutilation and torture to being simultaneously raped and devoured by male angels. Although the subtitle refers to Mnemosyne, the personification of memory in Greek mythology, Rin is better forgotten. (Rated TV MA: suitable for ages 18 and over: nudity, profanity, grotesque imagery, alcohol use, violence, violence against women, cannibalism, torture, and sexual situations, including lesbianism and bondage) –Charles Solomon

On the website it says the story is told in 6 hours, but the run time listed here is 300 minutes, which is only 5 hours. May need further investigation before purchase.

Wow, this rarely happens. I was really excited for this it sounds like a wonderful wonderful story line. Sounds great. sadly it wasn’t. When it came out i was so excited i ran to my best buy, bought this, i spent about 60 dollars for this. There is honestly about 4 1/2-5 hours of show including opening and closing credits. But i can get over that.

The are was great in some spot…but in most it looked very…stiff and lifeless. very amateur almost.

The whole thing with her being reborn…no she heals…she’s not reborn. The best way to describe her “powers” is that of wolverine on the x-men. She knows that she won’t die by a bullet so she walks into a line of fire falls down her chest glows then she stands back up and proceeds.

The sacrificing to the tree of life. it was not untill the last episode when that plan was put into place…kind-a half A**ed.

Now really don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed this show…but not to the magnitude of what i was wanting. and i feel a huge part of the reason i didn’t like it was false advertisement(kind-a) the series really sounds like something that it’s not. after watching this series with me and a few close friends we looks puzzles so later that week we watched it a second time thinking it being have the “Donnie Darko Effect” (where you need to watch it more then once to appreciate it to full extent). and in the end we are really puzzled and wonder if the person who wrote the review for the series on the box, let alone on amazon…really truly watched the series.

I would recommend this to people but i would highly suggest waiting untill it’s about 20 dollars.

And forgive me if your a fan. I really went into this with a open mind and truely wanted to like it…i just felt like there should be more…like the store could have been more in depth….like alot more

Completely disregarding all those reviews insulting the anime,I will be one to say that I could not ask for anything better out of this series. Some people would say that only having six episodes would be a major drawback to this series, well I have to disagree,There are plenty of great anime titles out there and half of them do not last 20 episodes or even 10 for that matter.Adding to that, each episode runs 45 mins long,so if it were to run 20 mins per episode, the series would be a standard 12 episode long anime.Putting that aside,Rin:Daughters Of Mnemosyne sets a unique tone that we do not often see.Containing lots of gore, nudity, and profanity,I would not be surprised if this anime is the only one of its kind.To be honest,I would not mind if it was the only one. This anime is fulfilling and will be remember by many.I recommend seizing the chance and buy it now while it is still at a reasonable price.

Rin is an action packed fast moving exciting series that revolves around action, mystery, suspense, and love. It is a mature title and several of those elements are seen throughout, for example the high price of getting information from informants. The story itself was moving and enjoyable and the ending was surely satisfying. I loved every second of it and recommend it to fans of the genre.
