This engaging action-comedy falters to a needlessly complicated conclusion in its final episodes. All the villains from Earth and Solvania–Willard Gates, the Yonshinkan, and Ryugen Higashita–attack during the Daimon High School fair, wrecking the play martial arts champion Ryoko Mitsurugi is performing with kendo captain Tatsuya. During the battle, Ryoko realizes that brash fellow martial artist Shizuma “Nagi” Kusanagi is a more effective partner for her than the shy Tatsuya. Unfortunately, the filmmakers never really explain who all these bad guys are or how they relate to Ryoko and her friends. Is the timorous Miyuki the War Priestess of Solvania? Is Gates a mafia capo or a demon-sorcerer? Did Nagi learn his fiery techniques from the human embodiment of Fate? What is the significance of the sword Schwartzkaiser? These likeable, silly characters deserve a better finale. (Unrated: suitable for ages 12 and older: violence, minor profanity) –Charles Solomon

I’ll first start with what is written onthe back of the DVD case: “In a school where martial arts are standard curriculum and disputes are settled by officially recognized duel – via the K-fight system – Ryoko takes on all comers. But this high school girl is in for the fight of her life when she is tranported to an alternate dimension and must defeat a myraid of evil adversaries.” Ok now for what I say, ^_^. The anime is pretty cool. First, On the first DVD there are 4 episodes, which is pretty cool. Second, there are many halarious characters, and from what I’ve seen, one serious character (you know? that person that without them the plot will never move forward? Never understood why they are always serious,
). Third, the main character, Ryoko (the name already tells you this show is cool) is a hot tempered kendo student who kick … and stays totally kawaii in the process. My type of character (I like the bitchy people, like Asuka in Eva ^_^). Forth, there’s a super cool guy, Ryoko’s mortal enemy, (and possible future crush? maybe….mawhahahaha) named Kusanagi. Come on people, anyone named Kusanagi can not, not be cool. He even wears a red jacket, hehe, and he’s just a big a smartass as Kusanagi in Blue Seed (also a must see anime. Is it true there’s a movie? If there is tell Jen here, I want to know ^_^) All in all Samurai girl gets a 4 out of 5. It loses points for all the panty shots and big breasted women…..

SAVE YUR MONEY!!! from the description i thought it sounded like a good story and anime to watch but geez what a waste of money. i have the whole series collection and i had to force myself to keep watching after the first episode in order to give it a fair chance. i kept hoping it would get better but it didnt! i watched 2 and a half episodes and shut it off. the anime isnt that good, the dialogue is horrible, the story is silly but in a dumb/stupid way not in a cute funny way. it comes off as very kiddish and NOt entertaining but i can’t even pass it off to my little cousins to watch it because it depicts the female characters in such a how do u say derogatory manner? they show the high school girls wearing the skimpiest hoochiest clothes for no reason… oh what a dissapointment!

I think my problem with the series is that I read the Graphic Novels first. The graphic novels are top notch with great art and a great story that has a lot of action and flows really well. The G.N.’s also manage a wide emotional range that is not diminished by the humor.
The animation seems childish by comparison. It starts I guess in the middle of the graphic novels and doesn’t even bother to follow the story line. It goes its own way with people from other dimensions and battle with dragons and such. The characters are 2 dimensional (pardon the pun) with no real emotional depth being created. Most of the events seem to be directed at a younger crowd (like kids).
The artwork fails to live up to expectations. The story line falls apart. Character development is nill.
The Manga is your best bet. These DVD’s are not.
The music wasn’t bad. In fact I would recommend the soundtrack. It has about 40 songs so the average length is pretty short per song (one track being a 10 second sound bite).

It was pretty good, but it did not stick to the Manga’s original plan. It kind of reduces the anime, but I will probably watch it again.
