Studio: Starz/sphe Release Date: 02/23/1999 Run time: 90 minutesA peak achievement of Japanese anime, Ninja Scroll is a propulsive mix of samurai action adventure and supernatural fantasy from writer-director Yoshiaki Kawajiri (Supernatural Best City). This is defiantly animation for grown-ups, complete with fountains of blood, plenty of naked flesh, and (in both the subtitled and dubbed versions) some decidedly strong language. (Students of Japanese language could pick up some useful expressions.) The plot sounds like a 16th century variation on the X-Files: An entire village has been wiped out by a mysterious plague and an anti-government conspiracy of invulnerable demons seems to be responsible. A wandering ninja, Jubei, and his female counterpart, Kagero, team up to defeat the plotters. Jubei is a classic reluctant hero, agreeing to participate in the mission only after being fed a slow-acting poison; the antidote will be supplied after he cooperates. And Kagero, a looker whose embrace is lethal, is a femme fatale with a difference that seems distinctively Japanese: sexual contact itself is poisonous, especially for a warrior with a pure soul. –David Chute

This is one of the worst anime’s I have ever seen. The characters and plot are terrible. The main ‘samurai’ seems to have no past besides that a while ago he killed a guy. Now he must go on this quest to finish him off again, for an asinine reason. He meets some small old guy, who poisons him. And he later counter-acts this poison with poison? WTF? The plot is asinine, the action is ridiculously stupid, and its ridden with unnecesary sex scences. I would reccomend to stay away from this, and if you already have bought it, burn it. If you’ve already seen it, cut your eyes out and destroy them. I would prefer many other anime’s, like Ruroni Kenshin. Its just better.

WARNING: This movie contains a sexual assault. It’s not just a case of roll your eyes here at anime undies or chesticles either. I felt like I needed to shower with a whole barrel full of disinfectant cleanser to remove the icky creepy sensation this movie left me with. EEW!

I heard from the net from many people this was the best anime movie out there so I decided to see it.
Well this movie is old and I would probably say this movie was the best movie on it’s time but not no more cause I thought of the story being lame but the movie was more focused on the action scenes which I may say they do I alright job when it comes to action scenes.
But if you like a some great action scenes, sex, weak story then go and rent it and see if you might like it.
2 stars is what I give it cause really not even average to what anime movies can reach at these days. Cause I expect more in anime movies than hollywood movies. But if I were to rate this movie when it had came out probably a 4.0 out of 5.0 but these days story and characters are big parts in anime that should grip you and let you go when the movie ends.
Verdict: 2.1 out of 5.0 An alright movie to see in the weekends if you are bored but when you want to see something good look elsewhere.

I thought that I was going to get a good action flick. I was horribly mistaken though.
First thisngs first; WAY to much sex! I could hardly watch as the main female lead got raped almost every 20 minutes. Thats not my idea of entertainment. There was a whole bunch of violence too. It seemed like the whole movie was revolvong around sex and violence. There is NO PLOT to this movie!! If you like loads of sex and senseless violence, this is your movie. If not, I’ll advise you not to watch.

Ninja Scroll is a huge disappointment for any fan of intelligent story telling. This ridiculously butchered telling of historical events is sheer fantasy and was more painful to watch than Mel Gibson’s “Braveheart.”
This sort of drivel may appeal to horny fratboys who cheer as the blood sprays and women are raped, but to anime fans who prefer substance, this is a waste of time. Go watch Evangelion or Grave of the Fireflies.
