An irresistible concept meets computer-generated wonders in Night at the Museum, inspired by a 1993 children’s book by Milan Trenc. Ben Stiller stars as Larry Daley, an underachieving inventor waiting for his ship to come in while getting evicted from one apartment after another for lack of funds. Larry’s son needs some stability, so the well-meaning ne’er-do-well takes a job as night watchman at New York City’s Museum of Natural History. What the soon-to-retire guards (Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Bill Cobbs) don’t tell him is that an ancient pharaoh’s tablet in the museum causes everything on display to come to life at night. Thus, Larry meets representations of Teddy Roosevelt, Attila the Hun, fire-worshipping cavemen, and Roman Empire soldiers, and learns to cope with an excitable T-Rex and man-eating, ancient animals. The film might have left things at that, but an added story element gives Night at the Museum some extra urgency and excitement, especially fo! r kids: Larry becomes responsible for keeping this nightly miracle going and preventing anything in the museum from dying due to exposure to sunrise. Computer effects, as well as wildly imaginative costumes and makeup, help make the film appeal to the 8-year-old in everyone. I took my grandchildren to see this movie. After the movie we went to have ice cream. My oldest grandbaby who is ten asked me, Was King Tut from Great Britain??….I know I know its laughable isn’t it.

I can’t believe my eyes at all of the good reviews people are giving this movie. I went and saw this movie in theaters with my uncle and we both wanted to leave about the middle of the movie.IT WAS SO BORING!!! the only people who might actually like are kids under the age of seven. Don’t waste your money on buying this or even renting it.

The fact that so many people actually gave this movie 5 stars shows how racism manifests itself in covert ways – a great family film? From robin williams (roosevelt) mocking African languages, to the disgracefully depicted passive and timid Indigenous female, Sacajawea, who later in the movie seems to fall in love with t.roosevelt? – the same man who would write: “The world would probably not have gone forward at all, had it not been for the displacement or submersion of savage and barbaric peoples as a consequence of the armed settlement in strange lands of the races who hold in their hands the fate of the years.”
So roosevelt a hero, or a racist colonizer? Other overtly racist depictions include the Mayan peoples, who in real life were butchered by columbus’s colonial offspring but are depicted as babbling savages that only seek to fight, and I could go on and on…
perhaps some of the reviewers should do like Stiller, and actually read some history instead of being willfully ignorant…

Let me first state that I have NOT seen this movie yet; in fact, I don’t believe it’s even come out yet. I am simply reviewing this based off what I have read and people who got into sneak previews of Night at the Museum… and based off what I’ve heard, I won’t be going to see this movie. I’m a pretty big fan of history, which for me would be the only turn-on for a movie about a down on his luck guy who just happens to land a job at a museum that houses a few secrets, mainly that its exhibits come to life during the wee hours of the night- during his shift, go figure… Slow and repetitive are the two main comments that I’ve gotten about Night at the Museum, and unless a glorifying review comes along, this is one movie I’ll be glad to skip over and just rent when it comes to DVD- maybe.

After 45 minutes, not having laughed, I left the theatre to get on with life. This holds little for the adult, unless you’ve never seen the Three Stooges, read a comic or seen a real comedy.
