Invader ZIM – Doom Doom Doom

Comic book artist Jhonen Vasquez’s outrĂ© sci-fi spoof, which ran on Nicktoons at Night from March 2001 to December 2002, remains the object of a vociferous cult following. Pressure from the fans compelled Nickelodeon to resume production of Invader Zim twice before the show was cancelled permanently. The title character is a zealous, none-too-bright agent from the Irken Empire posing a human boy. Zim imagines he’s gathering vital information for the imminent conquest of Earth; the Irken leaders actually sent him here to get rid of him. With the rather spotty assistance of Gir, his robot sidekick disguised as a dog, Zim alternately sneers at humanity and gets himself into trouble. The only person who recognizes Zim as an alien is his UFO-obsessed classmate, Dib.

The two-disc set is loaded with extras that will delight fans of the show, including commentaries by Vasquez and several of the story and voice artists, a second “commentary” of pigs grunting, subtitles in Irken, and the original pilot for the series. The uninitiated may find Invader Zim suggests a cross between Dexter’s Laboratory and Jimmy Neutron re-imagined by Tim Burton. The bizarre designs, over-the-top vocal performances, and bodily function jokes are not for the faint-hearted, but they’re not supposed to be. (Unrated, suitable for ages 10 and older: cartoon violence, gross humor) –Charles Solomon

I remmember watching this on TV, i never liked invader Zim.

It is very, very random, often annoying for my ears and just stupid. I like a little humor once in a while and Gir’s very ocassional antics are funny otherwise i am terribly annoyed with all the yelling and lack of sense. It is basicly a loser alien that cant conquer the earth and keeps getting beat by a kid. In the whole process its like ninja turtles on crack.

I HAVE A PLAN TO CONQUER THE WORLD! MAAHAHAHAHAH

No you cant ill stop you blah blah blah!…(this is when gir dose something stupid)

And the whole plan fails, a few seconds of main hero’s sarcastic sister the end. So yeah i got annoyed after the first episode.

So if you like ninja turtle son crack go ahead and buy this.

Unlike some Nicktoons, such as Ren & Stimpy and Rocko’s Modern Life, this is one that certainly deserved an early demise. The strategy of this show’s creators makes itself apparent very early on in the series(in the first episode)and never pulls its ugly, pulsating, blemish-laden face away from sight as it breathes its foul-smelling sulfrous breath through your nostrels. This program launches its rapid-fire humor at you like a sub-machine gun, showing little regard for whether the material is amusing or not(It rarely is) and the characters are not at all memorable or deep. This series has to have the most flat, two-dimensional(Please pardon the redundancy)characters that I’ve ever had the displeasure of viewing in a television series. Now that I’ve ripped the series to shreds(Hey, someone had to do it)I CAN say, begrudgingly, that the series made me laugh one in a while. Believe me, though, this collection is not even close to being worth its price tag. But hey, chances are if you’re even reading this review, you already think that this series is the greatest achievement in animated humor since Looney Tunes…even though it’s not.

I haven’t ordered this but I hope to own it.I love Invader Zim.I was around when it was on the air but in 2001-2002 I had never heard of the show but it is soooo funny.I’ve recorded one episode (Invasion of the Idiot Dog Brian/Bad,Bad Rubber Piggy) But if I have the DVDS then I’ll recycle the tape Or record episodes that aren’t shown on the DVDS.
