Ceres, Celestial Legend – Destiny

From the acclaimed author of “Fushigi Yugi” Yu Watase, comes one of the most anticipated anime series of the year! The supernatural thriller of love, betrayal and revenge begins on the day of Aya and her twin brother Aki’s 16th birthday, when their grandfather decides it’s time to share a long guarded secret. The twins are summoned to the massive mysterious Mikage House where they find thier extended family assembled and waiting. They are given a curious gift and in that instant their destiny begins to unfold… Based on a manga by Yu Watase (Fushigi Yugi), Ceres mixes elements of standard “magical girl” anime with the legend immortalized in the No play “The Robe of Feathers”: an angel descends to Earth to bathe, hanging her celestial robe of feathers on an ancient pine. A man steals the robe, imprisoning the angel, and, in some versions, forcing her to marry him. Sixteen-year-old Aya Mikage discovers she and her twin brother Aki are the direct descendants of an angel (or “celestial being”), and the psychic powers they’ve inherited make them the targets of a vast, murderous conspiracy. Aya quickly finds herself in a classic Watase dilemma, with two bishonen (“beautiful boys”) on hand to protect her: silent, mysterious Toya and cheerful, slightly klutzy Yuhi. Rated 16 Up: Violence, nudity, mild risqué humor. –Charles Solomon

I havn’t see this video yet. But if follows the manga exactly and I read the manga on the internet. It the the best story. Yuu Watase is a geniuse! I wouldn’t reccomend it to anyone under…13? Because of some of the mature situations. I’ve seen the entire video through picture someone got from watching it. Scanning pictures from the show. So it shows everything that’s going on. Anyway. I love it!

Watase has made another incredible series. Ceres has a much darker story and heavier drama than Fushigi Yuugi, but it still keeps those silly Watase moments that FY had. Ceres is a MUST SEE SERIES FOR WATASE FANS AS WELL AS SHOJO ANIME FANS!!! Watase has not lost her creative touch a bit with Ceres. The animation is great (is it just me or does it look exactly like the FY OVA animation?) and the voice acting is top notch, as usual.

I may just be the biggest basket case in the entire world but every time I see something Watase it just gets me in the heart. Ceres is no exception. Any fan of Fushigi Yuugi will be swept away by Ceres. The story is just as beautiful (and FRUSTRATING =^_-=) as FY and every bit as detailed. Watase has not lost any steam since FY and her characters and story lines just get better and better!

I bought this because I loved Fushigi Yugi so much. Maybe because of that, I had unfair expectations of this series. It’s beautifully drawn, and has a fascinating plot. The one problem with it is that horrible things start happening right away to characters I don’t know well enough to care about yet. Fushigi Yugi took its time developing the characters and making you love them before it broke your heart with tragedy after tragedy. This series could have been much better if it just took its time, let me love Aya and Aki before ruining their lives.

I bought this becasue I am a fan of Yu Watase’s Fushigi Yugi. I read the reviews about how it was darker than Fushigi Yugi, but I like Watase’s style so I went ahead and bought it. It starts off fun and interesting but gets darker as the plot progresses. It continues to be weird but slightly intriguing.

I dont like it as much as l like Fushigi Yugi. If you are buying this because you are looking for something similar to Fushigi Yugi, DONT. I wouldn’t say it is horrible, just not what I was expecting. However, if you are looking for something completely different and dark from Yu Watase I suppose this is for you.

Lets put it this way. The first volume did not make me want to buy the next. Maybe it gets better as the series continues. But I don’t plan on wasting my money to find out. LOL
