I would love to submit a reiew but Amazon shipped the incorrect model. After 2 phone calls I still have the wrong model sitting in it’s unopened box… how many calls to Amazon does it take to make it right?

Been comparing LED TV for the last 2 months. Vizio 55″ has the best picture. Better than Samsung, Toshiba and other name brands LED TV. Value!!! I dont how they did it but …hands down Vizio is the best among those new LED TV’s in the market today. Can’t believe it.. for this size TV and giving out that clarity and crispness of the picture. I highly recommend it.

Out of the box there was a scratch on the screen, all the way from the bottom right to top right. It is not a functional defect, only cosmetic. Vizio wanted me to email them photos of the scratch. That was not possible because the light was reflecting off the screen. After tech support and I were at a standoff, I spoke with a “supervisor”. She said that cosmetic defects from shipping or transit are not covered. The owner manual indicates that she was right. However, the customer does not know that til the tv is unpacked. The tv is going back to Costco.

Well, that was a lot of disappointment. Out of the box I played few minutes of a satellite HD recording and everything looked great (without paying too much attention).

But I switched to the Winter Olympics. With a snow background there was an obvious big watermark-like defect on most of the bottom half of the screen (a little bit like a giant ‘L/J’ across the bottom half). I do not know how that screen could have passed any type of Quality Assurance inspection, if any.

The defect is not obvious when watching a busy picture/movie, but it is really annoying when watching plain colors like ice rink, snow hill or even the blue ‘no data’ startup screen. And now that I have seen it, I can see it even on regular movie.

VIZIO support asked me to send pictures of the defect. Not quite trivial to take pictures of a screen defect like that. I had to play for 30 minutes with a DSLR camera to find the right settings to capture it.

I am still awaiting for their answer but I don’t see how they can fix it. This is probably going back to Costco in the next few days.

My advise: thoroughly test this screen when you get it before your return policy expires.

One more thing: and I do not know if this is due to that TV, the satellite receiver or to a limitation of HD technology. I was trying to find screen examples of the defect and while switching channels, I found Pirates of the Caribbeans. There was a scene filled with moving crabs. That looked absolutely awful on the screen. Was there too many moving elements for the compression algorithm? Or does that look better on other TVs?
