Well, I bought this player at a Target store for the same $50 that everybody else pays, and I’m a little disappointed. 480i and 480p picture is not that good when hooked up to an HDTV. Even my old Magnavox DVD Player on an even older TV looks twice as good!

One good thing about the player though is the audio. I’ve never had a home theater, but the sound is definitely great with a lot of DVDs I own. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith for instance, video isn’t as good as it could have been, but the audio during the battle of Coruscant sounded amazing. I sort of felt like I was in the battle myself!

The remote is just awful. For two main reasons: 1-The remote is tiny! 2-The buttons are two small. I’d rather use a DIRECTV Universal Remote than this one, even if it doesn’t share the same features. One more thing I have to say about this player is the memory card/USB feature. It may work with many memory cards that are on the market, but when I view my pictures on it the picture resolution sucks. Also, if you’re trying to view pictures (sadly, not listen to songs) via USB, you have to go through this annoying little process with the remote. One more thing I have to say is that I wish the DVD player would let me view videos and songs with memory cards or a USB cord.

    Pros:

-A/V, S-Video, Component, and HDMI connections

    -Great audio (includes coaxial port)

    -Plays home-made CD’S

    Cons:

    -Horrible picture in standard-definition

    -The tiny remote

-Doesn’t load at a stop point if turned off/stopped

    -Fuzzy picture even in 1080p

I’m definitely gonna buy a Pioneer BDP-51FD Blu-Ray player when I get the chance. Listen to me: DON’T GET THIS!! GET A DANG BLU-RAY PLAYER!!

I bought this a Target and a week later it stopped working. I wasn’t thinking and recycled the box so Target would not take it back. AVOID THIS DVD PLAYER.

I bought this at Target, not Amazon, so I can’t be sure it’s the same player, but the MVD2050 from Memorex (with HDMI output and a card reader) is emphatically not worth the $50 I payed.

First off: it doesn’t resume where you stopped after turning off the DVD player, a standard option on most players. It usually starts playing discs with the captions on. This may be a setting that one can change, but the MVD 2050 has built-in parental content controls, the initial password for which I don’t have. Some of the settings may be behind that password somewhere.

Also, the picture quality has gotten progressively worse over time on the HDMI output. I can’t be certain this is the DVD player itself, but given the other problems and generally low quality of this line of players, I wouldn’t doubt it.

The price it good, but the remote is micro, while watching a movie it impossbile to find a command on the micro remote, it so small a dog could swallow it, and it uses a small coin battery, enough is enough in making things smaller. Also could not find a “resume” so if you stop a movie no going back to were you left off.

Purchased this in January 2009 at Target. Was replacing a 9 year old Toshiba that stopped spinning. Here it is July of 2009 and it no longer plays. Was shocked to find that it only had a 90 day warranty.

Besides having a terrible warranty, I agree with the other reviewers about there woes. The remote is too small and has a terrible layout. It caused me much frustration when I hit other buttons by accident, and had to go trough so many steps to get back to where I was. For example, there is no way to resume to where you were, and with current DVD manufactures blocking you from being able to skip past the previews this was frustrating on many occasions. The pause to shut off cycle is way too short and there was no way to set it. I was spoiled with Toshiba’s color correct feature, so I noticed how bad the color was on this machine.

In all besides it only lasting 6 months, with moderate use (maybe a movie or two a week), I agree with others in that this was a cheap machine and it functioned according to cost.
