I guess I would have to use to a magnifying glass and get real close to tell the difference between a Blu-Ray and HD-dvd. First I figure I’ll let the movies decide….as in which format has the better films….yes films, not movies….there is no need to see Big Mama’s House in high definition. Honestly…Do you really need to see all the hairs on Rattatoui’s butt? I bought this and love this unit because of the underlying technology which can put more data on a platter than HD-DVD. AND, like the iPOD is not just a media player, there is that element of cool, elegant design with this Blu-ray unit that made both my 3 year old niece and 80 year old Mom go….wow, when the icy blue cover slides down and the disk tray slides out.
I give this player a big thumbs up, two blasts of phaser and a big clashing sound with my Darth Maul lightsaber.

The unit has countless errors and problems. There is often a several minute lag time between remote command and the units compliance. Some movies won’t ever play, ever! (brand new movies). Not one movie has ever started to play in less than twenty minutes. The unit is sooo slow, I wonder if it even has a kilobyte of RAM. I know they say the “good” players take a long time. But I don’t understand why it should take five minutes to turn on and open up. Very very poor design! I’m giving it away and buying a different one.

This model is very good for playing blu ray disc and the picture is perfect , but the sound effect outlet from this model is not as perfect as i expected .it may need firmware update to enhance sound effect .
