I did not like this movie. I enjoyed the Mack much better. The price on this video should of been cheaper.

…Roscoe Orman playing a ruthless pimp.

For those who don’t know, Orman is better known, by MILLIONS of children worldwide, as Gordon from SESAME STREET.

    DISTURBING!!! LOL

During a bout with insomnia last night, I happened to catch some of this movie on TCM. First of all, I couldn’t believe that the main character who is a pimp was being portrayed by Roscoe Orman a.k.a. “Gordon Robinson” from “Sesame Street”. Back in the early 1900s, vaudiville and the movies made fun of African-American men by portraying them as lazy, shuffling, ignorant fools; or as vicious beasts out to molest white women. From the 1970s onward, the stereotype changed to the cool “pimp” (i.e. “Flavor Flave” and “Snoop Dog”).

“Willie Dynamite” is nothing but a 1970s minstrel show.

If you are White and your idea of a fun time is to laugh at a movie that makes fun of Black people, then you’ll probably like this movie. If you are Black and you support Black boys and young men having a pimped-out freak as a role model, then you will probably enjoy this movie. As for me, I would like African-American youths to follow more positive Black male role models such as Martin Luther King, Thurgood Marshall, Barack Obama, and, yes, “Gordon Robinson”.

No wonder Roscoe Orman has continued as “Gordon Robinson” on “Seseme Street” for more than 30 years. The countless hours he spent modeling positive, caring, and gentlemanly behavior on “Seseme Street” has more than compensated for his unfortunate involvement in “Willie Dynamite”.
