Great film about corporate control and trying to have independent fun despite it all. A greater fantasy symbol now than then as the once unique one of a kind Route 66 places and ways of doing things in America have been replaced by ubiquitous chains such as Mc.Donalds that fill product with corn syrup so we acqure a taste that gives us chronic diabetes when before that taste was terrbile to us. Also this is a great rip on the Monkees by the Monkees. Davey’s knock on himself as the ulitmate heartthrob of the 60s and the #1 tambourine player of all times (sorry Betty and Veronica) is very funny. One of the most creative films ever that is better when you understand it. Albeit it is a little goofy nerdy too and that can kill it for some but then that’s 60′s Bubblegum for you.

Nothing like the old Monkees and this certainly wasn’t. Would not recommend it except as a piece to complete a collection of the Monkees memorabilia.

THE MONKEES HAD SOME GOOD TUNES AND I WAS A FAN OF THE TV SHOW BUT THERE ISN’T E-NUFF DRUGS TO MAKE THIS FILM ENJOYABLE..FRANK ZAPPA IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THIS FILM AND HIS APPERANCE IS ONLY A FEW SECONDS LONG…IF THEY’D ONLY TAKEN FRANK’S ADVICE THAT “YOU BOYS NEED TO WORK ON YER’ MUSIC.” WAIT FOR IT TO COME ON CABLE AND EVEN THEN DON’T BUY A “NEW” VHS TAPE IF YOU NEED IT FOR YER’ ARCHIVES…

Why can’t you rate lower then one star? Depressing. This whole movie was watching the Monkees kill off the Monkees. They had some talent, some. The music was alright, when you could understand the words. I have seen the Monkees perform since this, and in their “old age” they are finally getting better.Somewhat. At the end of the movie, I loaded my gun and had to decide wether to shoot the tv,DVD Player or the DVD! Only a “diehard” Monkee Fan would like this movie( after they smoked 6 or 7 of those funny little brown cigarettes). But,otherwise,it was “ok”.

If you have seen this movie before, then get it. If not, it is a really really different kind of movie. So much different then anything the Monkees have done before. Different then most people have done before.
