Dark Light
The Crow

Catch the explosive, action-packed hit that thrilled moviegoers and dazzled critics everywhere! Brandon Lee (RAPID FIRE) plays Eric Draven, a young rock guitarist who, along with his fiancee, is brutally killed by a ruthless gang of criminals. Exactly one year after his death, Eric returns — watched over by a hypnotic crow — to seek revenge, battling the evil crime lord and his band of urban thugs, who must answer for their crimes. Loaded with intense, nonstop action and a hot #1 hit soundtrack, THE CROW delivers exhilarating, fast-paced entertainment! The Crow set the standard for dark and violent comic-book movies (like Spawn or director Alex Proyas’s superior follow-up, Dark City), but it will forever be remembered as the film during which star Brandon Lee (son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee) was accidentally killed on the set by a loaded gun. The filmmakers were able to digitally sample what they’d captured of Lee’s performance and piece together enough footage to make the movie releasable. Indeed, it is probably more fascinating for that post-production story than for the tale on the screen. The Crow is appropriately cloaked in ominous expressionistic shadows, oozing urban dread and occult menace from every dank concrete crack, but it really adds up to a simple and perfunctory tale of ritual revenge. Guided by a portentous crow (standing in for Poe’s raven), Lee plays a deceased rock musician who returns from the grave to systematically torture and kill the outlandishly violent gang of hoodlums who murdered him and his fiancĂ©e the year before. The film is worth watching for its compelling visuals and genuinely nightmarish, otherworldly ambience. –Jim Emerson

Stop giving this movie a high score just because of the circumstances, does it all of sudden make this movie great? You know it doesn’t deserve a 7.x on IMDb. It’s a stupid, worthless movie. This fails on several, if not all levels. I couldn’t even finish watching this cheesy movie, half of this juvenile trash was enough for me before I finally gave up being sadistic enough to torture myself with this.

This has such bad and unconvincing acting, especially by the star of the film, Brandon Lee. A movie with a poorly executed story is made even harder to watch when the star of the movie couldn’t act his way out of a house with no walls (therefore no roof, think about it). His wife got raped and killed, what is he supposed to be, angry or campy? Why is he making jokes as he toys with his victims? This is like a damn cartoon for 10 year olds. If the movie didn’t take itself so seriously, then I wouldn’t mind that performance choice so much. Everything from the script and the dialog was formulaic. How can anyone think this is a great movie? It’s not 100% horrible, but it ain’t Spider-Man, it’s Elektra, enough said.

i saw this in 6th grade and has been my favorite movie since. people tell me i look like the crow cuz i wear makeup like him cuz im kind of gothic. i have tears like him and black nailpolish. now for reviews of the movies.

the crow is the best of the 3 cuz no one will ever be as good as brandon lee bless his sick soul. he recited edgar allen poe stuff which i think is cool. and i wish i couldve met the guy. he was my idol in the 6th grade along with brad manson or marilyn manson and they still are.

city of angels was not my favorite. about the only thing i liked about was the chic eric draven used to take care of cuz she was hot. the acting was pretty sucky.

salvation was good cuz i loved the blood and gore which i love in movies like predator.

    very good movies

I tried to watch this on cable, but gave up because it’s just a bunch of gratuitous violence. Like so many modern movies, a good premise but poor follow-through. Also, that bird is a raven, not a crow.

This movie is one of the most overated ever. Most of the reviews on Amazon are excellent ones but I have to disagree. Alex Proyas is an excellent director but this is his weakest effort of the 2 movies of his that I have seen. Dark City is a masterpiece digging into your minds days after you watch it. This movie isn’t thought provoking, is predictable and is very dark. Batman is Barney compared to this. This movie is always dark. But, most of this movie’s faults don’t really matter because it’s a superhero movie. At the start of all superhero movies, you know what’s going to happen. But, I like superhero movies, as they deliver good laughs and awesome fights. This movie wasn’t funny and wasn’t supposed to be. It was supposed to be dark. And it was. Superhero movies are the easiest to make because they’re croud pleasing as long as they have cool fights and awesome visuals. Who cares if it’s mindless junk? It’s still fun.

But, this movie was really dark. It is a solid rental for fan of superhero movies but beware, it has over the top violence and curse words unlike other superhero movies. But, Blade had curse words and lots of violence but I still loved it. Well, I just don’t know, but this movie was slow moving, weird and too violent. On top of it, there aren’t really any cool fight scenes.

In one shootout, the crow (not the bird, the superhero) shoots and kills everyone. But, he gets shot at also but he’s invincible and can’t die. This scene is lame because bullets just go through him and he deosn’t die and just shoots them.

The movie is fun and exciting at times but most of the time, it’s weird, really violent and way too dark. This movie isn’t like the other superhero movies. No this one is infested with drugs, nonstop blood and gore, and lots of weird stuff.

This movie could have been an excellent movie but to me, it was a movie that was a descent watch that I’ll never rewatch again.

The only reason that this movie is probably famous is because of the tragedy that befell Brandon Lee in it. This is something horrifying and tragic, and bizarre.

And don’t even get me started about the acting. Good job by Brandon Lee but even he seems to not be into it at all. But all of the other actors/actresses were horrible, notably the skater girl.

Lastly, this movie is made in a very corny and cheesy way. Why? Because one minute, the crow will be stabbing people and blowing up buildings and the next he’ll be hugging a little girl. Oh and what the heck was up with the crow weird quotes. Why was he talking about the raven by Edgar Allen Poe? Is he supposed to be an intellectual zombie? Oh, and what’s up with him talking about God and how God doesn’t want people to use heroin. I’m sure he’s drugged up in the movie! I mean, he must be on drugs to paint that weird stuff on his face. Sure it’s cool looking but he must be high. For a superhero movie, this movie is a major letdown. And that makes it even a bigger letdown because superhero movies are the easiest movies to make. They all are predictable, they all have tons of problems but most are likeable. But not this one.

I remember the day this movie entered my life. The story and visuals are paked with emotion. The music is stand alone. Some of the best by NIN, Thrill Kill Kult, STP, Violen Femmes, and the CURE. This movie Changed many lives. Even today I still see people mimicing “The Crow”.

However much like Nosferatu or brazil, its birth was amazing, original, and new. Today the film, with the skills of the late 80′s, is lacking continuity, general acting abilities, and just plain keeping attention. The ideas are amazing, the script is not. This movie was very important in the 90′s. Today it’s locked away in the archieves of the past. Showing us once again that nothing will last forever….
