With her cousins arrival, Konata starts feeling the pressure that goes along with being an older sister. It is all about looking smart, getting your homework done and staying up late to study for tests. Too bad she is only feeling the pressure and not actually following through. I was wondering how Yui put up with that pressure, but having seen the episodes, I get the feeling that none of it really affects her. So please tune in!

The “Clone Wars” goes back to the original Star Wars film when Obi-Wan Kenobi tells Luke Skywalker that he was once a Jedi knight the same as your father and that they fought together in the Clone Wars. Since that moment fans have been obsessed with what the clone wars were. This new TV series takes place immediately after the events of Star Wars-Episode II: Attack of the Clones. The series follows Obi-Wan Kenobi and his apprentice Anakin Skywalker and introduces us to some new characters such as Ahsoka Tano a girl Jedi knight as well as characters we already know.
The thrilling 3-D CGI animated series The Clone Wars serves as impressive proof that George Lucas’s Star Wars universe could translate to a weekly television series that wouldn’t lose the scope, imagination, or sense of adventure of the features. Like the 2008 feature film of the same name, the 22 episodes that compose the series’ debut season (2008-2009) cover the action between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Here Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and the latter’s Padawan, 14-year-old Ahsoka Tano (who takes some getting used to), along with a complex cast of supporting characters from the Galactic Republic (including R2-D2 and C-3PO, again voiced by Anthony Daniels), battle the Separatists, which count members of the Sith and other adherents to the Dark Side of the Force among its ranks. The action is plentiful and the scripts rich with the quasi-mystical and eminently quotable dialogue on which the Star Wars saga has earned its legendary status; one can imagine only the most stringent purist or CGI detractor finding fault with the first season of The Clone Wars.

The handsomely packaged four-disc set for season 1 includes a wealth of extras for those wishing to dig even deeper into the Clone Wars experience. Chief among the pleasant surprises is the widescreen aspect ratio for each episode, which gives greater depth and exposure to every single frame. Seven episodes are listed as Director’s Cuts, which translates as an extra minute or two of action or dialogue–not earth-shattering, but they certainly enhance the enjoyment of each episode. Short featurettes, ranging between 5 and 7 minutes, accompany each episode and discuss production notes, character design, and other detail; these are expanded versions of the commentaries by supervising director Dave Filoni that were featured on StarWars.com, with additional contributions by series writer Henry Gilroy and sound designer David Acord, as well as new comments by Filoni. And there’s a 64-page book of artwork from the series, including storyboards, concept design, and matte paintings, built into the body of the packaging itself. What do you get when you mix T-Birds, Bermuda shorts, bubble-flip dos and incredible dancing? You get Shag, The Movie a comic free-for-all (The New York Times) that Variety calls fun and breezy and you’ll call a blast! Carson (Phoebe Cates, Fast Times at Ridgemont High) is all set to marry respectable but boring Harley (Tyrone Power, Jr., Cocoon) until her best friends Melaina (Bridget Fonda, Single White Female), Pudge (Annabeth Gish, MysticPizza), and Luanne (Page Hannah, TV’s Fame ) whisk her off for a last-fling beach party where all the girls have the time of their lives! A charming bad boy throws Carson’s marriage plans intothe spin cycle. His nerdy sidekick whirls Pudge through some dazzling dance steps. Sultry Melaina learns some sexy moves from an Elvis-like teen idol. And even straight-laced Luanne whips off her horn-rimmed glasses and tosses her innocence to the wind!It’s not too surprising that Shag flopped on its 1989 release but found a devoted cult following on cable TV and home video. This featherweight comedy looked like a waste of space on the big screen, but it plays very cozily on the tube, where it lends itself to popcorn breaks and pajama parties. (The lousy title must have had something to do with the movie’s initial failure, a problem worsened by the film being marketed as Shag: The Movie, a truly dumb idea.) Shag is in the tradition of Spring Break pictures, a thoroughly formulaic stroll through the conventions of the minigenre: beachside romance, a wild party, one tender deflowering, and lots of rock & roll. The time is 1963, as three gal friends trick their soon-to-be-married pal (Phoebe Cates) into one final all-girl fling in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Cates is engaged to a local well-bred stick (Tyrone Power Jr.), but soon she’s tempted by a beach boy (Robert Rusler) bound for Yale (mm-hmm). The so-so material is buoyed by lovely Annabeth Gish, as the supposedly pudgy one in the group, and Bridget Fonda, as a prematurely sophisticated sexpot. After a while it’s easy enough to relax and enjoy the girls’ breezy adventures, which are served up without the soap opera melodrama of the similarly tooled Where the Boys Are. Oh, and Austin Powers notwithstanding, the title refers to the dance, not something else. –Robert Horton

Daffy scientist Wallace (voiced by Peter Sallis) and his heroic dog Gromit are doing well with their business, Anti-Pesto, a varmint-hunting outfit designed to keep their English town safe from rabbits chomping on prized vegetables. Wallace meets Lady Tottington (Helena Bonham Carter), who appreciates Wallace’s humane way of dealing with rabbits (courtesy of the Bun-Vac 6000), and sets up a rivalry with the gun-toting Victor Quartermaine (Ralph Fiennes, enjoying himself more than ever). Creator Nick Park, with co-director/writer Steve Box, delivers a story worthy of the 85-minute running time, although it stretches the act a bit; the formula plays better shorter, but the literally hand-crafted film is a joy to watch. Taking a chapter from classic horror films, a giant were-rabbit is soon on the prowl, and the town is up in arms, what with the annual vegetable contest close at hand. (Anyone who’s seen the previous three shorts knows who saves the day.) Never content to do something simply when the extravagant will do, W&G’s lives are filled with whimsical Rude Goldberg-style devices, and the opening number showcasing their alarm system is pure Aardman Animation at its finest. Even though there’s a new twist here–a few mild sight gags aimed at adults–this G-rated film will delight young and old alike as Park, like team Pixar, seems incapable of making anything but an outstanding film. –Doug Thomas

Inspector Winship (Knotts) and Dr. Tart (Conway) are a pair of Scotland Yard investigators who are called on to look into the mysterious murders of Lord and Lady Morley. At the possibly haunted Morley mansion the bumbling duo have to deal with a bizarre household staff, a wealthy heiress, and more in this hilarious spoof of Sherlock Holmes and other mystery stories. One of the best pairings for Knotts and Conway, with plenty of inspired slapstick and wackiness.Don Knotts and Tim Conway star in The Private Eyes, a 1980 comedy about two bumbling detectives solving a murder. It’s an impressively incompetent affair. Every ancient joke falls with a muffled thud as Knotts and Conway ham their way through the pointless story: The lord and lady of a capacious manor are killed, and the lord’s ghost seems to have returned to knock off the staff one by one. There’s an austere housekeeper, a snooty butler with compulsive twitches, a sexy upstairs maid, a deformed groomsman, and a buxom young heir to the estate, who of course is going to be in some state of undress before the movie is over. People get killed, their bodies disappear, Knotts and Conway wander aimlessly through secret passageways, dimly seeking some way out of this movie. Conway cowrote the script, so he gets most of the blame; Knotts was probably just happy to have the work. –Bret Fetzer

Myrna Loy and William Powell were one of Hollywood’s best-matched screen teams, with the chemistry fairly bubbling in their scenes together, as this Warner treasure trove boxed set shows. Audiences in the ’30s and ’40s delighted in the fact that Loy’s urbane sophisticate characters could match Powell’s quip for quip, martini for martini.

Manhattan Melodrama (1934) showcases Powell and Clark Gable as longtime friends on opposite sides of the law, and is the first pairing of Loy and Powell (and the first of four films they would make in 1934 alone. The film is briskly directed and the crackling screenplay won an Oscar the next year. Evelyn Prentice (1934) is the troubled wife (Loy) of a preoccupied attorney (Powell) who appears oblivious. The story isn’t one of the strongest in the collection, but the cast sparkles nonetheless. A witchy Rosalind Russell makes her memorable film debut as a femme fatale.

Double Wedding (1937) lets Loy and Powell flex their comedic chops. The plot is full of switchbacks and misunderstandings, but the key point is that their pal Waldo (John Beal) is that dreaded ’30s male screen archetype, the milquetoast. Much of the film’s fun is watching Powell’s character coach poor Waldo to grow a backbone: “Women don’t like noble, self-sacrificing men. Women are not civilized like we are. They like bloodshed!”

I Love You Again (1940) is one of the top screwball comedies of all time. George (Powell) is bonked on the head and realizes he’s had amnesia for the past several years, has been terribly boring and has been, yes, a milquetoast–who’s about to be divorced by his fed-up wife, Kay (Loy). The crazy plot is lofted by the brilliant screenplay and the delivery of the two leads, who spar like expert fencers: George: “You be careful, madam, or you’ll turn my pretty head with your flattery!” Kay: “I often wished I could turn your head–on a spit, over a slow fire.” Divine! Love Crazy (1941) is another classic farce, featuring Powell in drag, Powell faking insanity, Powell conniving to win back Loy’s love–all in a witty, urbane way, of course.

The set is also chockfull of great extras, with each feature paired with a classic comedy or musical short, plus cartoon or audio radio interviews. The icing on the cake: The fabulous packaging, including an image from the original movie posters on the discs themselves. Film lovers won’t want to miss this splendid collection. –A.T. Hurley
