From visionary writer/director Guillermo del Toro (director of Blade II, The Devil’s Backbone) comes Hellboy, a supernatural action adventure based on Mike Mignola’s popular Dark Horse Comics series of the same name. Born in the flames of hell and brought to Earth as an infant to perpetrate evil, Hellboy (Ron Perlman) was rescued from sinister forces by the benevolent Dr. Broom (John Hurt), who raised him to be a hero. In Dr. Broom’s secret Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, Hellboy creates an unlikely family consisting of the telepathic “Mer-Man” Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) and Liz Sherman (Selma Blair), the woman he loves who can control fire. Hidden from the very society that theyprotect, they stand as the key line of defense against an evil madman who seeks to reclaim Hellboy to the dark side and use his powers to destroy mankind. In the ongoing deluge of comic-book adaptations, Hellboy ranks well above average. Having turned down an offer to helm Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in favor of bringing Hellboy‘s origin story to the big screen, the gifted Mexican director Guillermo del Toro compensates for the excesses of Blade II with a moodily effective, consistently entertaining action-packed fantasy, beginning in 1944 when the mad monk Rasputin–in cahoots with occult-buff Hitler and his Nazi thugs–opens a transdimensional portal through which a baby demon emerges, capable of destroying the world with his powers. Instead, the aptly named Hellboy is raised by the benevolent Prof. Bloom, founder of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, whose allied forces enlist the adult Hellboy (Ron Perlman, perfectly cast) to battle evil at every turn. While nursing a melancholy love for the comely firestarter Liz (Selma Blair), Hellboy files his demonic horns (“to fit in,” says Bloom) and wreaks havoc on the bad guys. The action is occasionally routine (the movie suffers when compared to the similar X-Men blockbusters), but del Toro and Perlman have honored Mike Mignola’s original Dark Horse comics with a lavish and loyal interpretation, retaining the amusing and sympathetic quirks of character that made the comic-book Hellboy a pop-culture original. He’s red as a lobster, puffs stogies like Groucho Marx, and fights the good fight with a kind but troubled heart. What’s not to like? –Jeff Shannon

Apparently not all machines are capable of playing Blu-ray. None of mine were able to play this disk. Had to reorder.

Ovbiously, I have not seen the film either, for it has not been released yet.
But, I do have something to claim:
Guillermo del Toro may be and may not be a good filmamamker and I seriously doubt his ability to adapt comics into film form.
I have watched Blade 2 and, being a huge fan of the first one, have come to the conclusion that (as a filmmaker myself) Blade 2 is the third worst film that I have ever seen.
The first is The Matrix: Reloaded and the second is The Matrix: Revolutions.

Blade 2 was garbage. It was a terrible and hediously pathetic version of who the Blade character really is.
The film is filled with kung-fu fighting zombie vampires, a plot that sucked worse than the makeup, and an unlimited use of cgi beyond comprehension.
I am doubting Guillermo del Toro but I am not doubting Hellboy.

After viewing the trailer, I find it hard to believe that it comes from the same director as Blade 2.
The cgi actually looks proper, its cast is excellent, and the story is sticking to the comic books.

I will be in line for this film on its opening night.

Hellboy has to be the most overrated piece of crap since Spiderman 2 and the worst comic book movie next to those other duds(Daredevil,The Hulk). Ron Perlman is really badly casted as the main character Hellboy and the other actors/actresses were wasted as well, The storyline deals with Hellboy battling monsters and trying to kill a villian with the help of others. Hellboy seemed like a Sci/Fi channel movie than a comic book movie and the special effects looked like the kind you see on Power Rangers. the real hell is watching 125 minutes(PG-13 version) or 131 minutes(Director’s Cut) on a mess like this. PLEASE AMAZON PUT A ZERO STAR RATING BECAUSE FILM S LIKE THESE AND OTHERS DESERVE IT.

this movie sucks. action is unevenly spaced and all hellboy does is run around with his stupid one liners every time he fights. this is just schwarznegger or steven segal all decked out in red. gimme a break.

Of course I have not yet seen the film so I can’t really say this movie is awesome and such. But putting the peices together from A. The Trailer B. The Comics and C. the Director all of these things that factor in and give this film tremendous potential. The title character looks AWESOME, especially since he is not full CGI. The Director Mr. Del Toro knows his stuff and after doing Blade 2 I am confident he has his facts straight as far as comic book adaptions go. And if you lok back at the original source material for Hellboy(the comics), then we have a pretty epic fun ride of a film ahead of us.
